Short answer
An AI marketing agency uses artificial intelligence to do the usual work faster and better: analyzing accounts, proposing campaigns, writing ads and building reports. To choose one, look at five things: what the AI actually does, who approves the changes, who owns your accounts and data, how they protect your access and how clearly they show you the results.
Today almost every agency says it uses artificial intelligence. Some use it to write copy faster; others have it built into every process. For you, as a client, the difference shows in the quality of the campaigns, in speed and in what you can see of your own spend.
How it differs from a traditional agency
| Task | Traditional agency | AI agency |
|---|---|---|
| Reports | Built by hand every month. | Generated automatically; numbers are up to date. |
| Account reviews | When the team has time. | Every day, with alerts when something is off. |
| Proposals and ads | Depend on one person. | The AI proposes and a person decides. |
| Know-how | Lives in the team's heads. | Documented in processes and agents. |
What AI doesn't replace
AI is very good at analyzing data and producing first drafts. What stays human: understanding your business, defining the strategy, protecting your brand and deciding what goes live. Be wary of anyone who tells you AI does it all on its own.
7 questions before you hire
- What exactly does the AI do? Ask for concrete examples: reports, spotting wasted spend, keyword proposals, ad copy.
- Who approves changes to my accounts? The right answer is: a person, before anything goes live.
- Who owns the ad accounts? They should be yours. The agency joins as a partner with shared access.
- How do they store my access? They should never ask for passwords over chat or email. Access is granted as a partner or through permissions, and credentials are stored encrypted.
- Is my data used to train AI models? Ask directly and get it in writing.
- How do I see the results? Better if you have permanent access to your numbers, not just a PDF at the end of the month.
- What happens if I end the contract? Your accounts, your data and what was built for you should stay with you.
Red flags
- They promise guaranteed results or exact figures before seeing your accounts.
- They ask for your account passwords instead of partner access.
- They don't give you access to your own ad accounts.
- The AI publishes changes without anyone reviewing them.
- Reports only show reach and likes, not customers or sales.
